The European Aluminium Congress 2009 under the motto ‘Aluminium Automotive Applications - Material for Lightweight Construction and design’ was a great success. The various applications of aluminium currently used in cars were presented and discussed. Potential future developments were outlined that will make vehicles of the future even lighter and more energy efficient while maintaining or even improving today’s safety standards.

Some 220 participants visited six sessions with a total of 30 presentations. In their keynotes, Audi and Jaguar gave clear commitments to the light metal.
